Multiple rounds of wintry mix slickened roads with sleet and freezing rain from late morning Thursday through the night.
The most hazardous conditions came between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. with Saline County Central Dispatch coordinating responses to multiple accidents throughout the region. An ambulance dispatched to a wreck on state Route 13 east between Shawneetown and Old Shawneetown and Shawneetown firefighters were dispatched to a rollover accident with a vehicle on its top on the Shawneetown-New Haven Road, according to Saline County Sheriff’s Office that handled 911 calls for Gallatin County. The Mitchellsville area accident, at 3:43 p.m., involved driver Ethan V. List, 19, Williamsville, driving south on state Route 145 South 1/4 mile north of Jenny Ridge Road when he began to slide on the ice into the opposite lane. He overcorrected and slid off the west side of the highway, flipping his truck on its side, but was not injured, according to the accident report.
There were also reports of some trees down on roads.
Saline and Gallatin schools were closed Thursday and Saline remained closed Friday, though Gallatin buses were running.
The Saline County Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet was postponed until 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 and the Harrisburg City Council meeting was moved to 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25.
