  • The date and time of the dedication of the monument memorializing the Feb. 29, 2012, tornado victims was set Wednesday morning at Harrisburg City Hall.
Located on Rollie Moore Drive next to the Old National Bank, the monument is currently in place but shrouded until the service dedicating it.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 1, the one year anniversary of the storm which killed eight people and destroyed homes across Harrisburg. Attending the Wednesday meeting at City Hall were Mayor Eric Gregg, Harrisburg Fire Chief Bill Summers, Monument Committee Chairman Don Leibenguth and victim family representative Jennifer Reed.
It was decided that there would be a moment of silence at 10 a.m. March 1 and that flags would be flown at half mast all day. At 2 p.m. the public is invited to share the dedication experience.
Clergy will open and close the event and speakers will include victim family members, the mayor and elected officials. Thirty minutes prior to the event the monument will be unveiled for viewing by the victims' families.
There will be an area wide memorial service held on Sunday March 3 at Davenport Gym at 6 p.m. Sponsored by the Harrisburg Ministerial Alliance the service will be non-denominational and is open to the public.
