Capel Henshaw led three players in double figures as Harrisburg began their quest for a state title as the No. 1 team in Class 2A with a 74-38 beatdown of West Frankfort Wednesday night at Duff-Kingston Gymnasium in Eldorado.
While Henshaw went 7-of-12 from the floor and shared rebounding honors with Eli Taborn-Scott (six), Tyler Smithpeters tacked on 13 for Harrisburg, while Dakota Upchurch put up 11.
Harrisburg got a quick start out of the gate, taking a 29-12 lead. Every Bulldog starter scored in the first quarter and Harrisburg came away with three blocks.
The relentless pressure on the defensive end is what led to a sizeable potion of Harrisburg’s total.
The Bulldogs held West Frankfort to just two rebounds in the first half and used the fast break offense to beat WF in nearly every category.
Henshaw is well aware of what’s at stake. The postseason can be one-and-done.
“We take a lot from our defense,” Henshaw said. “When we bring energy and intensity on defense, it carries over to offense with the fast breaks and steals.”
Scott scored nine points for Harrisburg, while Ryne Roper scored eight. Justin Younger chipped in with seven, while Anfernee Houston and Carson Batts each had three points. Snjolfur Bjornsson and Jarren Goldman both had two points.
