Alfred “Al” Melton Basham, 80, passed away at 10:10 a.m. Monday Feb. 18, 2013, at his home in Galatia surrounded by all of his loving family.
He was born in Harrisburg on April 9, 1932, to Joseph and Faye (Gann) Basham. He was a farmer and later retired from the railroad. He was a member of the Galatia Masonic Lodge 684.
Al is survived by a sister Beaulah Glasscock of Elwood; two brothers Joseph (Sue) Basham, Harrisburg and Alvey James Basham, Eldorado; six children David (Amy) Basham, Rick (Debbie) Basham, Penny (Jim) Moulton, Robbie Basham, Al (Pam) Basham and Karen (Charlie) Ragon; a daughter-in-law; special nurse, Linda; 12 grandchildren, Levi-Desiree Moulton, Tosha-Lucky Sivok, Tiffani-Cliff Stone, Danyel-Shawn Burgett, DJ-Katrina Basham, Justin Basham, Lindi-Justin Smothers, Saige Basham, Alex Basham, Ashleigh Basham, Lynn Horton and L’Erin Ragon; and six great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Theresa Basham.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at the Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at the funeral home. The Rev. Jimmy Dale Lambert is officiating with burial in the Raleigh Masonic Cemetery. There will be Masonic rites by the Galatia Masonic Lodge 684 at 7 p.m. Thursday evening.
