There is a National Weather Service Storm Spotter Training 6 p.m. tonight at Southeastern Illinois College, Room B126W.
There is no charge and no pre-registration required, according to a release from the Saline County Emergency Management Agency. The goal is to educate people about weather and to help the National Weather Service as on-the-ground eyes and ears to help meteorologists watching radar images.
The National Weather Service relies on trained volunteer Storm Spotters to supplement doppler radar information on severe storms and tornadoes. Their volunteer efforts help the NWS in issuing warnings of tornadoes, severe thunderstorms and flash floods.
