James Elmo McFarland, 89 of Thompsonville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
Elmo was born June 11, 1923, in Saline County, to the late Hence and Anna (Kelley) McFarland. He married Freeda Mae (Carney) McFarland June 10, 1942, who preceded him in death in December of 2005.
Elmo was a retired coal miner and farmer. He was also a member and Elder of Lebanon South Church of Galatia.
He is survived by a daughter, Janice (Fred) Densch; a son Randy (Kim) McFarland; three grandsons; Shannon (Amanda) McFarland, Karl (Nicki) Densch, Brian (Amber) Densch; a granddaughter Stacey (Jason) Cochran; two great-grandsons, Jace Cochran, Kase Densch, and two great-granddaughters Maddie McFarland and Jaylee Cochran.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Elwood McFarland; and three sisters, Grace Moser, Gladys Evans and Pauline Kaytor.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday Feb. 21, 2013, at the Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with visitation 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 20, 2013, at the funeral home. The Rev. Kevin Peyton will officiate with burial in Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Thompsonville. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
