  •  Aircraft electrical problems grounded Senator Bill Brady's aircraft in Decatur Saturday evening.
The Senator was unable to attend and give the keynote address at the Saline County Republicans 2013 Lincoln Day Dinner.
Instead, former senatorial candidate for the Illinois Senate, Mark Minor gave a rallying speech calling for a party of "overcomers" to take back Washington and Springfield.
Brady addressed the gathering by e-mail quipping that Republicans are learning what it is like to be a Cubs fan, a reference that anyone from Illinois could understand.
"We have suffered a decade of decline under two Democratic governors. It's time for strong Republican leadership,” Brady wrote.
Brady thanked the Saline County Republicans for their support.
Michael Carter, a behavioral economist from Chicago and likely candidate for the Illinois Treasurer's job, spoke also.
"Republicans haven't done anything to the city of Chicago for 80 years. The current conditions are due exclusively to Democratic rule," he said.
Carter said he would help bring back the Main Street businesses of Southern Illinois if elected. He would accomplish this by communicating strategies that work with county and city treasurers all across the state.
Sue Bethel who recently suffered a brain aneurism and resultant surgery was recovered well enough to lead the group in singing "God Bless America" and "America the Beautiful."
