Robert R. “Bob” Cox, 84, of Eldorado-Gallatin County community, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon.
He was born in Ridgway on Oct. 25, 1928, to the late Pious “PC” and Olivia (Muensterman) Cox. He was a lifetime farmer, a member of the Saline County Country Club, a life member of the NRA a life member of the Eldorado VFW and a member of the Eldorado American Legion. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict where he was in combat infantry and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He is survived by his wife Phylis (Gholson) Cox, Eldorado; stepdaughter Ronda Ego, Harrisburg; sister-In-law Barbara Sue Cox, Eldorado; two brothers-In-law, Bill (Pauline) Gholson, Vienna and Ron Gholson of Charleston; niece Cathey (Dale) Newhouse, Red Bud; two nephews Grant (Lisa) Cox, Eldorado and Bob (Debbie) Cox, Texas and several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma R. Pat (Reeder) Cox; and a brother, Charles G. Cox.
Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Eldorado with Father Steven Beatty officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s cemetery. Visitation will be held 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday Feb. 14 until 11 a.m. at the Watson Funeral Home.
