  • Pictures set to music can tell a powerful story and the Harrisburg Kiwanis Club is hoping that a DVD of last year's tornado pictures accompanied by a locally written song will help the children hurt by the local disaster.
The storm committee of the local Kiwanis chapter came up with the idea and committee member Rhonda Belford with assistance from Jo Jenkins and Jim Peters provided the words and music. The photos are from local media and citizens collections and graphically represent the extent of the damage from the storm that killed eight local citizens.
Sale of the DVD/CDs will be handled by the following Harrisburg banks: Banterra, 1520 E. Poplar St.; Farmer's State Bank, 555 S. Commercial St.; Legence, 502 N. Commercial St.; Old National Bank, 2 E. Locust St. and People's National Bank, 445 N. Commercial St.
Belford performs the song on the DVD/CD and hopes the proceeds will buy instruments and help provide for local music programs in the schools. The committee members hope the song will function as "an anthem of hope" according to a press release.
Digital downloads of the song, "We Are Here," and ringtones are available on ITunes and participating digital stores.
They hope to have both the DVD and CD available on Feb. 27, the date of the Harrisburg Kiwanis STORM Tribute to be held at noon on that day at Ponderosa Steak House.
