  • The saying goes that it's hard to beat a team three times.
The Harrisburg High School girls' basketball team had two previous victories over Eldorado coming into Wednesday night's semifinal action of the Hamilton County Class 2A Regional.
Eldorado did what they could to prevent the trifecta, having a shot at tying the game or coming away with the game winner in the last 55.2 seconds Wednesday, but ultimately fell to Harrisburg 48-46.
On a night when nothing seemed to go right for the Bulldogs, Shelby Boer was the one who could do no wrong.
The senior shouldered the load and stepped up, scoring 10 points in a critical third quarter that helped erase a seven-point Eldorado halftime lead and give the Bulldogs a one-point 36-35 advantage going into the game's final eight minutes.
The see-saw battle continued into the fourth with a couple of quick buckets by Boer that gave Harrisburg a 40-37 lead.
Turnovers, which costed Harrisburg in the first half, nearly became the death as a miscue with 1:41 left led to an Ashton Unthank breakaway bucket that gave Eldorado a 46-45.
As big as Boer was for Harrisburg, Kelsey Hobbs played the role of unsung hero as the freshman came out of no where to knock down a 3-pointer with 1:15 to play, giving the Bulldogs the 48-46 lead.
Eldorado had three straight possessions in the last minute, but couldn't manufacture any type of shot, giving Harrisburg the win where they will meet Mt. Carmel in tonight's regional championship at 7:30 p.m.
Boer finished with a game-high 25 points and 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs, while Ashton Unthank and Erica Graczyk finished in double figures for Eldorado as Unthank went out with 13 and Graczyk finished with 11.
Lindsey Murray had nine for Harrisburg, while Ashley Ferrell and Hanna Jones finished with four. Devan Jones and Hobbs each tacked on three points.
Kourtney Phillips and Taylor Goodley each added eight points and Jacqlyn Artman finished with four points. Paige Zertuche had two points for Eldorado.
