Algert "Al" Rodgers, 91, of Harrisburg passed away at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013.
He was born in Michigan on April 4, 1921, to Bill and Mary Rodgers. He married Mary Janet Davis on Feb. 28, 1952. She preceded him in death on Feb. 19, 2007.
He was a welder at Will Scarlet Mine in Stonefort until retiring in 1989. Al and Mary enjoyed spending their summers at Kentucky Lake and had many friends there. They had a special bond with their grandchildren, Jami (Fritch) Roe and Matt Fritch.
He is survived by his daughter, Gary (Carole) Gullett of Benton; a son, Richard Rodgers of Florida; a grandson, Matt (Rena) Fritch, Metropolis; a granddaughter, Jami (Brian) Roe, Harrisburg; four great-grandchildren, Braden and Karsyn Fritch, Devon and Brandyn Roe. He has one brother, Bill Rodgers, who resides in Colorado.
Graveside funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Sunset Garden Cemetery in Harrisburg, with military rites by the Harrisburg and Carrier Mills American Legion and the National Guard. Those wishing to attend should go directly to the cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are in the charge of Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
