Wilma Bernice (Phelps) Russell, 90, Eldorado passed away at 8:25 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Fountainview Nursing Home.
Bernice was born in Eldorado on Sept. 23, 1922, to the late Clyde A. and Emma (Hughes) Phelps. She left Eldorado to live in the Fairview Heights area, working at Swifts’ (Conagra) Foods for many years before retiring in Eldorado. Her husband Fred Russell preceded her in death.
Bernice is survived by one brother, Wayne (June) Phelps, Maryville; nieces and nephews, Larry (Kathy) Phelps, Carroll (Chris) Phelps, David (Leslie) Phelps, Mike (Barbara) Phelps, all of Eldorado, Lendell (Karen) Phelps Jr., Wayne (Vickie) Phelps Jr., of Maryville, Bob (Carole) Phelps of Edwardsville, Beverly Phelps of Bartow, Fla., Artie (Margie) Phelps of Marine, Louann Kish of Swansea, Drew (Sandy) Phelps of Fairview Heights, and Steve (Brenda) Phelps of Collinsville. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Alice Phelps; two niece-in-laws, Delores Phelps of Maryville and Connie Phelps of Caseyville along with many adoring great-nieces and -nephews.
Bernice was preceded in death by six brothers, Granville, Carl, Cecil, Gene, Lendell and Vonal D.; three nephews, Jerry, Rayburn and David Phelps.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday Feb. 7, 2013, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Aaron Phelps and the Rev. Jeff Roth officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. Thursday to service time. Burial will be in Douglass Cemetery north of Eldorado.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of Star Church in Eldorado where she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and became a life-long member.
