  • Harrisburg High School head wrestling coach Greg Langley feels his Bulldogs are headed in the right direction.
    The timing couldn’t be better.
The Bulldogs will compete in regionals this Saturday in West Frankfort, this on the heels of finishing 12th out of 18 teams at the Rich Lovellette Panther Invitational over the weekend.
“It’s always a tough tournament, but something I feel our young guys need to experience to get a taste of great competition from throughout the state and what it takes to compete over two days,” Langley said.
The Bulldogs came away with a third and fourth place finishes, while grabbing two sixth place finishes.
Brandon Thom (285-pounds), defeated Orion’s Marcus Crawford for third place, while Austin Lowery (126 pounds) took home fourth place after falling in a time of 5:36 to Auburn’s Dalton Snell.
Harrisburg’s two sixth place winners were Darren O’ Dell (113 pounds) and Tyler Owens (220 pounds).
O’ Dell lost to Murphysboro’s Dylan Chambers in the fifth place match with a time of 1:58, while Owens fell to Carlyle’s Jordan Rainy at a time of 1:36.
“I felt like we might have had the chance to finish a little higher than we didn” Langley added. “But, overall we did compete with people and that’s what I like about this group here lately.
“Our effort and intensity has improved throughout the season and I feel we are headed in the right direction.”
