The Speech Team at Harrisburg High School brought home an impressive array of awards from a recent Egyptian Forensic League competition.
Preston Boone, 16, placed 16th; D. J. Duncan, 17, placed third; Brandon Johnson placed second; Jillian Miller, 16, placed sixth; Meredith Wolf, 17, placed fifth; Phil West, 18, placed 15th.
Johnson performed a humorous interpretation.
Duncan performed a reading for his entry. The title was "Fox 8" by George Saunders.
Duncan said, "Speech is always a challenge. You have to get the judges to like you. It makes you feel really good about yourself. Brandon is our team's best speaker. He competes both in dramatic reading and the humorous event. He consistently wins both."
Other teams in the EFL competition were from Benton, Carbondale, DuQuoin, Belleville, Glennwood, Granite City and Waterloo.
The speech club will hold a performance night at the Harrisburg High School at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 in the Bonnell Gym.
Fourteen presentations will be made.
