A very small chance for freezing rain and sleet on Sunday morning before temperatures rise above freezing.

This forecast analysis covers far southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and northwest Tennessee

HEADLINES: I hope everyone has enjoyed the weekend, thus far? It appears our next weather maker is already knocking at the door.

Showers will develop and move across the area on Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon. There is a very small window of opportunity for freezing rain and sleet to fall - this would be before temperatures rise above freezing.

Showers will continue on and off into Tuesday night.

The heavier rain is likely to occur along a cold front on Tuesday. This is when the most warm and moist air arrives in our region.

Wind fields with this system on Tuesday will be strong. Lot of wind shear in the atmosphere. The only question will be instability.

Thunderstorms are likely to occur on Tuesday in our area. A few of the storms could produce damaging winds and tornadoes. Pay a little more attention on Tuesday to the weather forecast.

Rain and storms will come to an end by Wednesday morning. Some snow showers will be possible in the colder air behind the cold front - later next week.

Rainfall totals from Sunday through Tuesday night should be in the 0.75"-1.50" range. Locally heavy rain will be possible with thunderstorms.

Monitor forecasts on Tuesday. A chance for a few severe thunderstorms.

Small chance of wintry mix on Sunday morning - looks mostly as if this will be a rain event. But, just in case the precipitation arrives a little earlier than forecast keep this in mind.

The forecast for severe or extreme weather

The McCracken County Office of Emergency Management reminds you that owning a NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio is the best way to receive notifications of severe weather watches and warnings.

Remember that the National Weather Service defines a severe thunderstorm as one that produces 58 mph winds or higher, hail 1" in size or larger, and/or a tornado.

Sunday: Severe weather is not anticipated. Small chance for sleet or freezing rain during the morning hours - best chance would be over southeast Missouri and southern Illinois.

Monday: Severe weather is not anticipated. No snow or ice.
