There is no need to get excited, yet, but there were daffodils sprouting up last weekend.
They were growing by the propane tank - that dreaded pill-shaped device I open with a cringe to see how soon I have to pay for a refill. When a fill up costs $500 the tank is never half full; it is always half empty. But the last trip out there told me no matter how low the propane level is, the daffodils think winter - and high propane costs - are on the way out and spring is on the way in.
At some point in the next couple months the precious propane will cease to roar through the furnace and will go back to its more pleasant business of warming the hot water tank and stove - and warming the daffodils as it reflects the sun's rays back into their yellow petals.
