The 11th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast is planned 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Jan. 21 at the Harris-Pruett Building, 107 East Church Street.
The long-standing event provides a nourishing meal to start the day and a time to reflect on freedoms won through work of a leader in the Civil Rights movement.
This event was started in 2002 by Charlotte Taborn with help from her cousin Linda Williams from Michigan. The purpose is "to refresh everyone's memory of Dr. King. If we don't do it, people will forget," she said.
Donation is $5 to dine in or carry out. The menu consists of bacon, eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy, fruit and a drink. The sponsoring church — Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, Harrisburg — will deliver meals.
The host pastor is Donald Stewart Jr. The program of speakers starts at 10:30 a.m. Any attending preachers or deacons are invited to speak, Taborn said.
This year's theme is "With Faith We are Going To Make It."
