Pauline Small, 85, Galatia passed away 12:20 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Harrisburg on July 19, 1927, to Eugene and Stella (Potter) Shea. Pauline married Joe Small on Dec. 21, 1955, at Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church; he preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 1999. She was an active member of Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church. Pauline received her bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University and taught school before devoting her life to being a loving farm wife and mother.
Pauline is survived by four children; Bruce (Laura) Small, Brian (Connie) Small, Kevin (Lisa) Small; Susan (Scott) Hines and Rick and Susan Lloyd whom she also referred to as her “kids”; seven grandchildren, K.C. (Casey) Carlile, Whitney (Mike) Hammond, Heather (Ben) Schultz, David Small, Rebecca Small, Jessi Hines and Josh Hines; five great-grandchildren, Connor, Wyatt and Josie Carlile, Macayla and Colton Hammond. She is also survived by a sister, Betty McConnell; two sisters-in-law, Ann Shea and Mary Margaret Small.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Bernice Keneipp and Katherine Ewell; and two brothers Bill Shea and an infant brother.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia, with visitation 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at the funeral home. The Rev. Jimmy Dale Lambert will officiate with burial in the Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg.
