The Harrisburg High School girls' bowling team placed ninth out of 32 teams at the O' Fallon Invitational Saturday.
The tournament uses a baker scoring system, so there were no individual scores.
"I would classify this effort as just okay," HHS head coach Doug Cottom said "We feel like we should have been in the top eight for the roll off which we missed by 65 pins after a day of bowling.
"There were some bright spots for sure but we never maintained the momentum after playing well in spurts," he added. "The girls are right on the edge of taking that next step up the ladder but are real hesitant to do so. We have the talent to do it. We have raised the bar with this group so sometimes it sounds horrible but comparing to past years we are way ahead of the curve."
The boys and girls are home to host Centralia on Wednesday and play at Carterville on Thursday. The IHSA Sectionals start on Saturday.
