The Harrisburg wrestling team went 1-1 over the weekend at the Harrisburg Dual matches, beating Mt. Carmel 42-41 and losing Benton 55-24.
In the loss to Benton, Harrisburg head coach Greg Langley said his Bulldogs were handcuffed out of the gate.
"It makes it tough when you have to forfeit three weight classes and five up 18 team points right out of the gate," Langley said. "We had four or five of our regulars not in the lineup today and it really cost us against Benton."
Langley added Harrisburg was able to win by the narrowest of margins against Mt. Carmel, thanks in part to getting good matchups of wrestlers.
"Mt. Carmel crushed Benton in the first match of the day and we had a better matchup individually with Mt. Carmel, but against Benton, not as good.
So, the forfeits hurt even more in that match. I felt we did some good things over the weekend, but still make young, inexperienced mistakes."
In the win against Mt. Carmel, Aaron Bryant (106 pounds), Darren O' Dell (113 pounds), Tyler Sullivan (120 pounds), Austin Lowry (126 pounds), Cody Rightnowar (132 pounds), Sean Crisenberry (138 pounds) and Brice Mauney (160 pounds) all took home wins.
In the loss to Benton, Tyler Owens (220 pounds), Lucian Hicks (160 pounds), along with Rightnowar and O'Dell got victories.
Harrisburg is at West Frankfort tonight (Tuesday) with a 6 p.m. start against Pinckneyville and the host Redbirds.
