The weather turned to freezing rain but the group Harpeth Rising came to Southeastern Illinois College and played an extended set of original music and many classic favorites like the Beatle's "Norwegian Wood."
Composed of a violin, a banjo, a cello and percussion, the group delivers high quality vocal accompaniment to their virtuoso performances on their instruments. All members hold degrees in music from Indiana University.
There is a Celtic undercurrent to most of their music, choice of instruments contributing to this.
But the lead vocal performances of Jordana Greenberg and Rebecca Reed-Lund add just the right touch of wistfulness to the songs and reinforce the Celtic overtones.
Named for a river near Nashville in middle Tennessee, Harpeth Rising is truly a rising local Nashville group with its own unique sound. They were named best local group in Nashville by the Tennessean.
