  • The Eldorado High School girls' basketball team earned a 62-50 victory over Vienna Monday night to stay perfect in Black Diamond Conference play and 12-3 overall.
Paige Zertuche led the Eagles with 18 points, while Kourtney Phillips and Taylor Goodley each chipped in with 13 points. Abby Steed scored 10 and Erica Graczyk finished with four for EHS, who outscored Vienna 37-24 in the second half after Vienna held a 26-25 lead at halftimes.
The most telling stat however could be the Eagles' performance from the free throw line, where Eldorado went 14-for-14 in the game and 8-for-8 in the fourth quarter.
With a player out, head coach Josh Bradley felt his Eagles showed a lot of maturity in the win.
"We were a man down, with Ashton (Unthank) at home sick and our girls really rallied together and played a pretty good ball game. It was a game of spurts early, I thought Vienna's transition game bugged us all night but in the second half we did a better job of getting back on defense.
Bradley commented on how vital a role his bench played in the win, where Eldorado's Jacquelyn Artman and Lacy Jo Bradley both scored two points.
"We talk all the time, to beat good teams you have to make your freethrows late and tonight we did that."
The Eldorado junior varsity team improved to 11-0 on the season where Steed led all scorers with 16 points. Riley Duckworth finished with four points, while Caitlyn Stafford and Artman tacked on three points. Brooklyn Peavler and Bradley scored two.
In a 57-16 weekend win over West Frankfort, Phillips scored 15, while Zertuche poured in 12 points and Goodley scored 10.
Unthank added eight points, while Graczyk finished with five. Steed, Duckworth and Dresdyn Bramlett all scored two points. Artman added a free throw.
