The Harrisburg High School girls' basketball team shook off some holiday rust, posting a 69-60 win over Fairfield Saturday.
Harrisburg built an early 10-point first half lead as Fairfield closed it to three before a Hanna Jones layup at the end of the second quarter to take a 32-27 halftime lead.
"After not playing for 15 days I was proud of the way we came out," HHS head coach Jake Stewart said. "We got down by a few and missed four straight wide open layups, but other then that I thought we executed very well."
In the 3rd Harrisburg scored half their points in the paint and pushed the lead to 11. "We did a good job of getting the ball to Hanna, Shelby, and Devin," Stewart said. "We scored 33 points in the paint. I thought Ashley played a great floor game and did a good job of scoring as well."
Harrisburg got up as many as 17 points in the fourth before winning by nine.
"We attacked when we didnt need to and made some mistakes and missed some bunnies instead of taking care of the ball. This was a good team win especially since Fairfield is in our regional."
Ferrell led all scorers with 16 points, followed by 15 from Boer.
Harrisburg will play host to Murphysboro tonight (Tuesday) at Davenport Gymnasium.
The Harrisburg junior varsity program improved to 11-0 with a 32-20 victory.
Alexa Burtis poured in 11 points, while Kaytlyn Keith, Kelsey Hobbs and Brittany Reynolds all had four.
Hannah Walker, Lilee Robinson, Miranda Foster and Hayley Thompson all had two points. Taylor McDaniel had a free throw.
