  • Harrisburg runs record to 4-4 after 2-1 showing over weekend

  • The Harrisburg High School wrestling team went 2-1 over the weekend, beating West Frankfort (42-38) and Carmi-White County 48-31, while losing to East St. Louis (42-36) at the West Frankfort Duals Saturday.
    HHS head coach Greg Langley said he felt his team wrestled much better over the weekend.
    "Even though we came up short against East St. Louis, we had guys stay after it and despite being down in the match, we were able to recover and come up with a pin in the end. That's what made the difference today."
    In the win against West Frankfort, Aaron Bryant (106-pounds), Darren O'Dell (113-pounds), Austin Lowry (126-pounds), Jaxon Karnoski (182-pounds), Cole Adams (195-pounds), Tyler Owens (220-pounds) and Brandon Thom (285-pounds) all picked up victories.
    In the win against Carmi-White County,  Tyler Sullivan (120-pounds), Cody Rightnowar (132-pounds), Sean Crisenberry (138-pounds), along with Bryant, O'Dell, Sullivan, Lowry, Owens and Thom all earned victories against the Bulldogs.
    In the loss to East St. Louis, Zach Perkins (152 pounds), Lucian Hicks (160 pounds), Bryan Miller (170 pounds), along with Sullivan, Karnoski and Owens all picked up wins.
    "We always talk about wrestling a full six minutes and we were able to do a better job of that (Saturday)," Langley said. "We can always find areas that need improvement and we will continue throughout this season to do just that. We had much more confidence and it showed over the weekend."
    Late last week, Harrisburg lost 48-31 to Carmi-White Countyy where Bryant, O'Dell, Sullivan, Rightnowar, Karnoski and Thom all earned match victories.
    Bryant won with a time of 1:17, while O'Dell came away with a pin at the 4:27 mark. Sullivan won his match with a 5-2 decision and Rightnowar had a winning time of 3:58. Karnoski's victory came with a 12-4 decision and Thom won with a fall time of 2:32.
    The Harrisburg junior varsity wrestling team improved to 3-1 with a 36-30 win over CWC.
    Zach Clarida (106 pounds), Dale Baker (120 pounds), Nicholas Reel (132 pounds), Logan Boon (170 pounds) and Ryan Dennison (285 pounds) all picked up victories.
