Alma Lee Edwards, 81, rural Carrier Mills passed away at 7:55 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at her home.
She was born on Feb. 19, 1931, in Williamson County to the late Carrol and Verna West Edwards. She was never married. She lived her entire life in the home where she was born and died. She retired from Smohler Brothers in Herrin and Johnston City. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was a former Sunday school teacher.
She is survived by her two sisters, Verneice Owen, rural Carrier Mills, Nilagene (Harley) Smith, Harrisburg; nephews and nieces, Carsa Bundren of Marion, David Smith of Equality, Leslie Smith of Harrisburg, Alan Edwards of Carrier Mills and Donna Williams of Marion; great-niece and nephews, Tiarra Osman, Ryan Bundren and Nathan Smith; and a sister-in-law Barbara Edwards of Carrier Mills.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Ovie Edwards and an infant brother Kenneth.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. John Howat officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Pittsburg. The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Southern Illinois in her memory in lieu of flowers.
