Mavis Sturman, 87, of 108 West Walnut Street, Carrier Mills died 11:30 a.m. Saturday Dec. 29, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born on May 14, 1925, in Cambell, Mo., to the late Fred and Rosa Belle (Lamunion) Elder. She married William L. Sturman on June 27, 1953, in Corinth, Miss., and he preceded her in death on April 9, 1978.
She was a retired seamstress working at Harrisburg Manufacturing, also known as the cap factory. She also attended Dorrisville Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Paul, Carrier Mills; son, William (Lois) Sturman, Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Traci (Jeff) Babcock, Mt. Olive, Miranda (Jeff) Cain, Eldorado, Josh Paul and Jake Paul both of Carrier Mills; three great-grandchildren, Dmitri Evans, Daniel Evans and Cooper Cain; two sisters, Norma Lindsay of Carrier Mills, and Novella Keener of Dyer, Ind., and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Leroy Elder, Hobert Elder and Hershel Elder; and a grandchild, Melissa (Billy) Evans.
Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 1, 2013, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Visitation will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday until service time. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg. The Rev. Dewayne Taylor will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Dorrisville Baptist Church Missions fund.
