Barry Nevitt, 50, Harrisburg, likes action and often brings his friend Rick Humphries along for the ride.
Nevitt took up snowboarding in 1993 at Paoli Peaks, Ind., and years ago tried talking his friend Rick Humphries into trying it out. Humphries resisted. But Friday the combination of snow and steep levee hills got the best of him and Humphries got on a snowboard and tried it out for the first time.
He did well. He did not fall down.
Nevitt has snowboarded in the Sierra Nevada in California. His fondest memory is of a run that was 3/4 of a mile long in perfect powder conditions.
"We had to climb to the top of the run and it was pretty tough in waist high snow. I only did that run once. Couldn't see climbing it again," Nevitt said.
The pair have plans for when the snow melts: Continue their usual winter sport of mountain biking.
