  • Boys Basketball: Carrier Mills outlasts Hamilton County in elimination game

  • Carrier Mills had Union County on the ropes, but just couldn’t deliver the knockout punch as the Wildcats feel to the No. 4 seeded Braves 59-35 in the opening round of the Eldorado Holiday Tournament Friday morning at Duff-Kingston Gymnasium.
    The Wildcats held a 14-10 advantage with a little under five minutes to play in the second quarter in the first game of the tournament, but Union County went on a 15-2 run to close the quarter and take a 25-16 lead at halftime.
    Carrier Mills was led in scoring by 11 points from Slayden Figg, while Dalton Summers and Cameron Taborn each chipped in with seven points. Darren Betz added six points for the Wildcats, while Josh Bailey and Gabe Motsinger each had two points.
    The Braves were led by Jashaud Fleming and Matt Loxley’s 11 points an Myron Rickerson also finished in double digits, scoring 10 points.
    Union County will take on Massac County Saturday at 1:45 p.m.

    Carrier Mills eliminated Hamilton County from the EHT in the last game of the tournament Friday night, beating the Foxes 89-79.
    It was a spectacular finish in which Carrier Mills put five players in double figures as Slayden Figg led the way with 22 points. Josh Bailey and Josh Summers each scored 21 points, while Darren Betz tacked on 13 and Cameron Taborn popped off for 12.
    Hamilton County finished with five players in double figures as well as Logan Billington led the Foxes with 20 points. Nathan Anselement had 15, while Tyler Cross tacked on 12 and Levi Lueke scored 11.
