  • They say that many hands make light work.
That was pretty much the case for Harrisburg Friday morning as they handled Hardin County 74-32 in the first round of the Eldorado Holiday Tournament.
Harrisburg improved to 11-0 on the season, keeping their unbeaten record in tact, as they got double-digit scoring from three players.
The Bulldogs got 15 points from both Tyler Smithpeters and Capel Henshaw, while Snjolfur Bjornsson topped out with 11.
Harrisburg, the tournament's No. 1 seed, will now play West Frankfort, who came away with the game's first upset of the tournament, as they knocked off No.8 seeded Fairfield 55-52 on a last second 3-pointer from Braxston Koehl. That game will be at 3:15 Saturday at Duff-Kingston Gymnasium.
For Harrisburg head coach Randy Smithpeters, his primary goal was to get that primary game out of the way.
"It's a tough game to come out and play and it's a tough game to come out and prepare for," Smithpeters said. "What we wanted to do was come out and play at the level that we needed to play at to defend well, run your offense well and to not make mistakes. I thought we did that and shot the ball well. Things went the way we wanted them too today."
Hardin County had just three players score in the first game of the afternoon session as B.J. Austin had 13 points and Logan Conn contributed with 11. Jeremy Hicks had eight points for the Cougars.
Hardin County will now play Fairfield at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
Harrisburg's defense on Friday afternoon was downright suffocating, as they limited the Cougars to 13-of-41 shooting from the floor and forced Hardin County (2-10) into 26 turnovers.
On the flip side, Harrisburg shot 31-of-50 from the field, including a 14-for-17 clip to start the first quarter and parlayed that with a 7-for-7 performance in the third quarter.
Henshaw went 7-for-7 on the day and had a team-high five rebounds, while as a team, the Bulldogs outrebounded Hardin County 26-15.
Adding to the scoring for Harrisburg was Dakota Upchurch and Justin Younger, who each had seven points.
Carson Batts and Bahari Amaya each finished with four points, while Eli Taborn-Scott and Caleb Bartok each tacked on three points. Jarren Goldman and Jake Simerly each had two points, while Gabe Oglesby had a free throw.
