An Eldorado man was arrested Tuesday on charges he had injured a 9-month-old child Dec. 11.
Illinois State Police arrested Adam Foster Zappa, 22, 804 Big Four St., Eldorado, 11:35 a.m. Dec. 18 on a charge of aggravated battery of a child. He remains held at the Saline County Detention Center on $10,000 cash bond.
The investigation began Dec. 11 when Illinois State Police learned the 9-month-old son of Jessica Hess — Zappa’s girlfriend — was taken to Ferrell Hospital with a head injury and later was taken to St. Louis Children’s Hospital for further treatment of a subdural hematoma — brain bleed — and a retinal hemorrhage, according to court documents.
Hess had left her son in the charge of Zappa at 1107 A. Garfield St., Eldorado, and he initially told investigators the boy had fallen off a couch and struck his head, according to court documents.
In another interview with on Dec. 18 Zappa told investigating officer Stacy Kinter he had shaken the boy to get him to be quiet and the boy became unresponsive, according to court documents.
