The Phelps Brothers are visiting area nursing homes to spread Christmas joy to residents there, a tradition they have kept for many years.
At 1 p.m. Friday they will lead Christmas carol singing at Carrier Mills Nursing Home and at 2 p.m. will be at Fountainview in Eldorado, David Phelps said. Phelps and brothers, Larry, Caroll and Mike are trying to schedule with other homes through the weekend to expand their "Goodwill Tour."
David Phelps said he enjoys visiting nursing homes and those of the "greatest generation" who lived through some of the most dramatic moments in our country's history, such as the Great Depression and World War II.
"It's good for us. We get blessings out of it," he said.
The brother's father, Cecil, lived the last few months of his life at the former Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Galatia and even on days he did not know the brothers' names "his eyes lit up when we sang," Phelps said.
