Donna J Gogue, 79, of Harco, passed away 10:10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
She was born on April 1, 1933, in Guthrie, Okla., to Henry Thomas and Bina Magdalene (Plumb) Miller. The family later moved to Missouri where Donna grew up. Donna was married to John L. Gogue on Oct. 8, 1949, in Mt. Home, Ark. He preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 2005.
Born to this union were three children, Betty (Les) Smith of Nashville, Tenn., Johnny (Betty) Gogue of Galatia and Wilma (Scott) Lambert of Harco. She has several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Brian (Patti) Gee and children, Taylor, Austin, Lauren, Kaitlyn, Emily and Kobe of Arkansas; Chris (Stacy) Gee and children, Christian and Avery of Tennessee and Amanda Knight and daughter Kindle of Kentucky; Brian (Vicki) Smith and family of Tennessee; David (Lori) Smith and family of Tennessee; Janice Somers and family of Tennessee; Brooke (Billy) Carlton and daughters Hannah and Emily of Galatia; Stephen (Nicole) Steiner and daughters Alexis, Danielle and Stephanie of Thompsonville; David (Becky) Steiner and daughters, Karleigh and Kassidy of Thompsonville; Julie Emberton and sons James and Jarod of Galatia. She is survived by a brother, Leroy Miller (Mary McNugh) of Kansas; sister Creeda Brown of Missouri; brother-in-law, Leon Gogue of Wisconsin. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly, numerous friends from church and the children she taught in Sunday School and a special friend, Charlie Bennett of West Frankfort.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; a granddaughter, Crystal Gogue; brothers, Port, Raymond and Curtis Miller; and several brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.
She was a member of the Harco Baptist Church where she was very active for over 53 years. She was also a Sunday School teacher for many years. Donna was also very active in the Democratic Party.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at the Harco Baptist Church. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at the Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia. The Rev. Roy Hughes, Rev. Derek Downs and Rev. John Howat will be officiating with burial in the Brushy Cemetery at Harco. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to the Harco Baptist Church.
