Job-finding workshops offered to Willow Lake miners
Laid off Willow Lake Mine workers are invited to a series of job-finding workshops at Southeastern Illinois College organized by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Dec. 12 and Dec. 13.
On each day there will be a 9 a.m. session and a 1 p.m. session. Miners whose last names begin with the letters A through K are asked to attend the 9 a.m. sessions and those with names beginning with L though Z are to attend the 1 p.m.
session.
The DCEO Illinois workNet Center has a Web site directed specifically at Willow Lane miners.
The site includes a Laid Off Worker Step Guide, instructions on how to file for unemployment insurance and instructions on how to sign up for an Illinois Job Link Account.
The site also has a section dedicated to job training through the Workforce Investment Act that includes a skills and interest self-assessment, research materials for demand occupations and opportunities to research training programs.
The site contains information on COBRA and Illinois Health Car Portal for health insurance, retirement plan information and social security benefits as well as money management calculators.
