  • In Tuesday night's opener at the Harrisburg Invitational, Gallatin County got in the win column with a 72-39 victory over Carmi-White County.
The Hawks (1-1) were led by Andrew Drone's 41 points, while Daine Hish and Patrick Lowe also 10 points a piece.
Gallatin County opened up with a 17-10 lead and built a comfortable 37-17 lead at intermission.
The Hawks pulled away in the third quarter, taking a 51-25 lead.
Wes McGuire tacked on three points for Gallatin County, while Mitchell Ramsey, Austin Russell, Zack McGuire and Jared Jackson all scored two points.
"We had a tough one Monday night against Harrisburg and I think our guys had a little more fun tonight," Gallatin County head coach Robert Patton said. "They played hard and did everything they had to do."
Patton added that there's no secret as for as success goes for his team. A lot of what his club will do is go to Drone on the inside and find a way to get Lowe and Hish just as many touches.
"These three guys have bought into that. I think everyone else on our team is buying into that. That's what we have to do to be effective. We have to play good defense, take care of the basketball and just pound the ball inside."
Earlier in the day, the Illinois Associated Press released its high school basketball poll, where Gallatin County entered the picture at No. 4, getting one first place vote.
Patton acknowledges the attention, but adds he's not one that pays much attention to polls.
"We have to get it done on the floor. If these guys follow our game plan and do what we ask of them, than we have a chance to win a lot of basketball games."
