  • A woman charged with killing a Freeman Spur man in 2011 has pleaded guilty to the crime.
Kate M. Bodie, 36 of Herrin, entered a guilty plea to First Degree Murder in return for a 50 year sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Bodie, 36, was charged in the May 24, 2011, handgun slaying of Charles R. James of Freeman Spur.
“Bodie will be required to serve the entire 50-year sentence and will not be eligible for release until she is 86 years old in 2062,” said State’s Attorney Charles Garnati.
Garnati said that Bodie will also be required to testify truthfully in any trials or hearings related to her co-defendant Cynthia Stearns, who is also charged with First Degree Murder in James’ death.
Joshua M. Dallacosta is a third defendant in the crime. Both Stearns and Dallacosta are being held in the Williamson County Jail awaiting trial.
Stearns was 51 and Dallacosta was 15 at the time of the murder. James, who was 73 at the time of his death, was Stearns’ father and was at his daughter’s home when he was killed.
A jury trial of Dallacosta is set to begin in January. A trial for Stearns is set to begin in February.
