William J. Crittendon, 81, of 409 East Walnut Street, Carrier Mills, died 11:34 p.m. Tuesday, Nov., 20, 2012, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Visitation will be held after 9 a.m. Saturday until service time. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Carrier Mills with military rites performed by the Carrier Mills American Legion, Harrisburg American Legion and the Army National Guard Ritual Team. The Rev. Ownly Williams will officiate.
He was born on Sept. 23, 1931, in Dresden, Tenn., to the late Arlander Vincent and Ezealer Crittendon.
He married the former Iva M. Winston on Aug. 24, 1952, who survives.
He retired from the United States Army after 35 years of services attaining the rank of command sergeant major. He was a veteran of the Korean War.
He also was a member and trustee of Carrier Mills Baber Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Iva M. Crittendon of Carrier Mills; a son, William A. (Linda) Crittendon of Harrisburg; two grandchildren, Garrett (Twila) Crittendon of Eldorado and Malory B. Crittendon of Harrisburg; two great-grandchildren, Zander Crittendon of Eldorado and Aniyah Crittendon of Harrisburg; two stepgrandchildren, Amber Gooch of Marion and Tashy Isbell of Carrier Mills; eight great-stepgrandchildren, Jasmine Garrett, Dante Gooch, Gabriel Gooch and Abigayle Gooch, all of Marion, and Austyn Isbell, Zhayne Isbell and Sydney Isbell, all of Carrier Mills, and Jonathon Meriedith; nieces, Demita Barbine, Kesha Crittendon and Faith Crittendon; great-nephews, Layton Crittendon and Jake Stewart; special friends, Lisa Stabler, Roger and Fran Tuttle; and many other cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Joe E. Crittendon.
