  • If there's one thing that Eldorado head coach Josh Bradley appreciates, it's hard work. Especially when that hard work was put in months in advance.
Erica Graczyk worked hard in the summer to build upper body strength. It proved to be beneficial as she went up against Carmi-White County's 5-foot-9 forward Emma Bachman Tuesday night in the Harrisburg Invitational at Davenport Gymnasium.
Graczyk, Eldorado's 5-10 forward muscled her way for 10 points in the Eagles' 38-32 win over the Bulldogs.
Eldorado (2-1) found themselves down by one point at halftime, falling into the slow pace that CWC dictated. Bradley said that despite discussing things ahead of time, he made necessary adjustments at halftime that allowed them to take control of the game.
"Carmi just plays a slow pace," Bradley said. "As an offensive team, you fall into that trap and it makes it uncomfortable at time when you want to get up and down the floor like we do, but in the third quarter we were running our breaks, getting some easy shots in transition and got the tempo up."
Eldorado was able to hang on to its composure in the closing minutes, despite a full court trap employed by CWC.
The Eagles put the ball in the hands of sophomore guard Taylor Goodley, who took full advantage of her opportunities at the free throw line as she finished six-for-six from the line and had a team-high 12 points for Eldorado.
"When (Carmi) put the press on, Taylor went and got the ball and I was really proud of the way Erica played tonight down low. I know how hard she worked in the offseason and it's just nice to see it show in a game like this."
Ashton Unthank added eight points for Eldorado, while Paige Zertuche scored six points on two three-pointers and Cassidy Morris finished with two points.
Eldorado will play Anna-Jonesboro Friday at 6 p.m., while the host team Harrisburg takes on West Frankfort at 7:30 p.m.
