  • Three candidates filed petitions Monday to run in Macomb's February 26 city election.
This was the first day for filing, with the remaining days being Tuesday, Wednesday, and next Monday, Nov. 26.
City Clerk Melanie Falk said that Alderman Dennis Moon arrived when her office opened at 8 a.m., filing to run for re-election as alderman at-large. Falk said there may be one or two more petitions out for that office, but those who take out petitions are not required to say for which office they are petitioning or they can decide to run for a different office.
Kay Hill, the appointed incumbent for Macomb's 2nd Ward, filed her petitions Monday to run for election to the office in February. Steve Wailand, a Western Illinois University student, filed petitions to run against Hill.
Falk said there could be one more petition out for the 2nd Ward if that candidate does not choose to run for alderman at-large. She said there is only one petition out for the aldermanic post in the 1st Ward and at least one, possibly two, petitions out for alderman in Macomb's 5th Ward.
