Marjorie "Janice" (Stiff) Sisk, 73, of Springfield, formerly of Harrisburg, passed away on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield with her family by her side. She was born on Oct. 22, 1939, in Harrisburg.
Janice is survived by her devoted son, George, and his wife, Jori; her beloved niece, Marsha Faulkner; and two wonderful grandchildren, Elliot and Eden, all of Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bret Hart and Rose Agnes (Head) Stiff; sister, Delores Joan Faulkner; two brothers, Dorman and Robert; and a brother-in-law, Samuel Marshall Faulkner.
Janice received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She was very grateful to have been employed in her chosen field of education throughout her life. The years she spent teaching at St. Joseph's School in Ridgway were some of her most pleasant memories. Immediately before retiring from teaching, she worked with at-risk students in an effort to keep them in school and away from jail and drugs. In her later years, Janice devoted countless hours to loving and caring for her four-legged friends, especially the strays who seemed to know where she lived and for whom she kept a ready supply of goodies.
Janice was an avid supporter of the Animal Protective League and other animal rights organizations. She was also a supporter and member of the Jewish Federation of Springfield.
Per her wishes, a private graveside service for family was held on Nov. 12, 2012, at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg. No visitation was held. Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg was in charge of funeral arrangements and burial.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League of Springfield, 1001 Taintor Road, Springfield, IL 62702, or the Jewish Federation of Springfield, 1045 Outer Park Drive, Springfield, Ill. 62704.
