The Carrier Mills-Stonefort Grade School will hold their 19th annual Veterans Day event 8:30 a.m. Friday in the school's gymnasium. The school expects the program to last until around 11 a.m.
This year, the program will focus on a traveling memorial wall that will be set up in the gym. The wall includes the names, photographs and biographical information on every Illinois soldier who has died in the recent wars in the Middle East.
"We're going to try to gear our program towards the memorial wall,” said organizer Phyllis Bradley.
As they do every year, local veterans will be honored and the veteran of the year will be announced.
The student council will put on a special performance to honor fallen soldiers, and individual students or classes will also perform songs, skits and other performances.
Everyone is welcome to attend the special event.
A free lunch will be held after the program for all veterans and a guest at the First United Methodist Church in Carrier Mills.
