  • William Grant Riegel, age 89, of Birmingham, Ala., formerly of Harrisburg, passed away 12:07 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at Saline Care Center in Harrisburg.

  • William Grant Riegel, age 89, of Birmingham, Ala., formerly of Harrisburg, passed away 12:07 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at Saline Care Center in Harrisburg.
    Grant was born Aug. 12, 1923, in Brushy Township, to the late Willie B. and Grace (Dougherty) Riegel. He married Joan Lightfoot Jones April 12, 1979. Grant was the former owner of Grants Clothing of Carrier Mills. Grant was a member of the Union Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Galatia. He was also a member of the Carrier Mills Masonic Lodge, Egyptian Shrine Club, Ainad Temple of East Saint Louis and the Saline County Genealogical Society.
    Grant is survived by his wife, Joan of Birmingham, Ala.; son, William Lowell Riegel and wife Debbie of Benton; son, Gary Lee Riegel and wife Irma of Oakland; four stepchildren, Paul W. Jones and wife Pat of Nashotah, Wis., Dr. Larry Jones and wife Janet of Harrisburg, Connie Moore and husband Robert of Birmingham, Ala., and Edith Sparks and husband Tom of Kennesaw, Ga.; three grandsons, David Riegel of Los Angeles, Calif., Daniel Scott Riegel and wife Lialah of Benton, Brant Warren Riegel and wife Daniela, ex-wife and the mother of his children, Alice Weed; nine stepgrandchildren, Rebecca Massey and husband Joel, Marcia Burch and husband Stephen, Tara Grosner and husband John, Dr. Loren Jones and wife Karee, Braden Jones, Matthew Sparks, Samuel Sparks, Rachel Moore and Caroline Moore; five great-grandchildren; and cousin, Reginald Riegel and wife Mildred.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jesse Lowell Riegel; and two daughters-in-law, Rose Riegel and Faith Riegel.
    Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. Chris Winkleman will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at Reed Funeral Chapel. Masonic Rites will be conducted by the Carrier Mills Masonic Lodge 7 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
