  • In her second season has head volleyball coach, Stephanie Ferrell knows one thing about her Bulldogs: they are still coming into their own.
As the Class 3A Volleyball Regional got underway Monday night at Davenport Gymnasium, Harrisburg was faced with a daunting task that included Abby Horn, the Herrin Tigers - a veteran and seasoned team.
The Bulldogs never could gain any momentum against Herrin, despite numerous efforts as they fell in straight sets 25-10 and 25-18.
In the first game, Herrin jumped out to a 9-3 lead before Whitney Younger's outback, followed up by an ace cut the deficit to four. However, Herrin went on the offensive again, taking a 14-7 lead and 18-9, before Horn came up with a kill to make it 19-9.
In the second game, Harrisburg played to their strengths, at times kept the game close. Although, any momentum the Bulldogs hope to gain was quickly diminished by Herrin.
McKenna Stanley finished with four kills and was 14-of-18 on hits, while Shelby Boer had six kills and was 15-for-17 on hits. Younger finished with four kills and was 8-for-11 on hits, while Kaitlyn Hutchison was 11-for-12 on hits with two kills.
In the digs department, Ashley Ferrell had 10, while Motsinger finished with nine. Malayna Douglas had seven digs, while Jordan Stewart and Younger finished with four.
Motsinger had five assists on sets, while finishing 21-for-26 and Douglas had 7 assists, going 21-for-25.
Tonight (Tuesday), Marion will play Herrin at 6 p.m., while Massac County will play the winner of Murphysboro/Carbondale.
The championship match is set for Thursday at 6 p.m. at Davenport Gymnasium.
