Frank W. Genet, 64, of Eldorado, plead guilty Wednesday afternoon in Saline County Circuit Court to predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, according to a prepared release by the Saline County State's Attorney's office.
Pursuant to a plea agreement, Genet was sentenced to 16 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, 85 percent of which must be served. In addition, Genet must register as a sex offender for life.
He was scheduled to go to trial Oct. 24 on charges of three counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving a five year-old child, according to the release. The offenses occurred between Nov. 2011 and June 2012.
Assistant State's Attorney Eva Walker said the plea agreement allowed the child to avoid the trauma of a jury trial while insuring Genet will be incarcerated for a significant amount of time.
