The Harrisburg volleyball team knocked off West Frankfort in straight sets 25-12 and 25-23 Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs were losing the second game 22-14 before McKenna Stanley served eight straight service points to tie the game up. Harrisburg kept up the momentum and finished with a straight set victory.
"I can't express how important this win was for us tonight," head coach Stephanie Ferrell said. "The girls set their minds before the game to go out and communicate, move their feet and be aggressive and they followed through. Our defense was right on, giving great passes to our setters. Those great sets allowed our hitters to have a combined 26 kills. I am so proud of them.
"These girls have put a lot of hard work and time into practicing. It's great to see the that hard work pay off. Ashleigh Griffin came out and did an outstanding job for us blocking and collecting 11 kills. They kept their heads up the whole match, even when we were down by eight in the second set coming back and tying the game at 21."
Stanley finished with 16 hits, 13 service points and eight kills, while Griffin had 24 hits and 11 kills.
Marcella Motsinger had 39 sets, 11 assists and 12 digs. Ashley Ferrell was 20-for-23 in digs with five assists, while providing seven service points. Whitney Younger had nine digs, 11 hits, four kills and 11 service points. Malayna Douglas was 28-for-42 on sets with 11 assists and eight digs. Kaitlyn Hutchison had nine digs, two assists, 16 hits and three kills.
The Harrisburg junior varsity team also won in straight sets 25-17 and 25-15, while the freshmen team lost 20-25, 25-21 and 15-12.
