FREEMAN SPUR -- Deputies were dispatched to a residence in Freeman Spur at 12:13 p.m. Saturday to investigate a report of the accidental shooting of a 14-year-old female.
Lt. Kevin J. Fleming of the Franklin County Sheriff's Department said West Frankfort Fire Department ambulance responded to the scene and transported Ashley Kay Jackson of Royalton to the Herrin Hospital where she later succumbed to her wounds.
The Williamson County Coroner's Office also responded to the hospital to assist in the investigation.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Jackson was accidentally shot by a family member.
Jackson was born Oct. 30, 1997 in Carbondale, the daughter of John Ryan and Kathy (Kent) Jackson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10 in the Royalton Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. David Sorensen officiating. Burial will be in Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and after 9 a.m. on Wednesday until time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Jackson are suggested to the Ashley Kay Jackson Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Herrin Security Bank, 204 S. Main St., Royalton, IL 62983 or to the Royalton Church of the Nazarene, P.O. Box 579, Royalton, IL 62983.

Jackson attended the Royalton Church of the Nazarene. She was a freshman at Zeigler-Royalton High School and was active in volleyball, softball and track. She enjoyed horseback riding and riding four-wheelers with her dog Buddy.
