  • Prep Soccer: Bulldogs come back to beat Aces

  • The Harrisburg soccer team scored a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Mt. Carmel Thursday.
    The Aces took a 2-0 first half lead, before Harrisburg started a second half comeback that saw them score three goals, compliments of Aferner Houston, Carver Gregg and Hunter Ragan with Luke Horton providing two assists in the win.
    Jacob Oldani got the win in goal for the Bulldogs, playing all 80 minutes and making nine saves for head coach Michael Stewart and Harrisburg.
    In the second half, in the 44 minute, Horton fed the ball to
    Ragan who able to slide one past the Mt Carmel keeper, to put the dogs on the board.
    "This was the sparked we needed," said Stewart, "This was probably the game changer."
    From that point on the 'Dogs would dominate play. The short possession game kept the Aces scrambling and on their heels.
    In the 62nd minute, Horton would once again find and lead an attacker to find the of the net, this time it was Gregg, who would receive the pass and make the connection putting the 'Dogs even with Aces at 2-2.
    Both teams continued to battle with the game getting physical. In an exciting turn of events, at the 74 minute, it was Houston, who received a miss pass from the Aces, settled the ball and from 30 yards out hit the upper 90 of the goal and found the back of the net, putting 'Dogs up by one. The Aces tried to battle back but the Harrisburg defense would hold strong, thus upsetting the senior night of the Mt Carmel team by a score of 3-2.
    "We played very well tonight. I thought we played our short game well and we were able to settle the ball tonight," said Stewart. "It was nice to see Afernee Houston, use his ability tonight and shoot from the outside and putting in the goal."
    There was no JV game at Mt. Carmel. Harrisburg will host Olney at 4:30 p.m. Monday in the final regular season home home game.
