  • It is a proven recipe for success: The coming together of classmates, the community pride of a parade, the food of fall festivals and the spectacle of professional wrestling matches. Catskin Days is underway.

Lasting through Saturday night the Carrier Mills celebration brings the community downtown for a celebration.

"The crowd favorite is the pro wrestling on Main Street for free all three nights," committee member Shawn Wilkins said.

The parade is 1 p.m. Saturday sponsored by Bank of Marion.

"It should be quite a parade," Wilkins said, especially since this is political year, bring out extra campaigning entrants.

The carnival will not be traditional due to a scheduling mix up. 25-8 Amusements of Arthur will provide carnival games, laser tag, an obstacle course, slides and inflatables.

Each night USA Championship Wrestling will provide a main event. Local wrestler Heath Hatton -- native of Norris City who now resides in Harrisburg -- is among the competitors. Other USA Wrestling superstars include Matt Boyce and Steve O.

The festival seems to be growing in popularity, according to Wilkins who has had a hand in organizing it since 2006.

"It's growing each year and getting better. (Catskin Days Spring Fest-- fundraiser for the fall event) is picking up. Catskin Days has always been pretty decent, but it's picking up each year and growing," Wilkins said.

Every other year the Carrier Mills All School Reunion happens during Catskin Days. All Carrier Mills alumni are welcome to gather at 2 p.m. at the High School. There will be a meeting for election of officers, visit and reminisce followed by punch and cookies. Payment of dues will be accepted from those who have not already mailed them in.
