Ruth (Gray) Puryear, 92, Dallas, Texas, says she will be unable to attend the now-annual Harrisburg Homecoming week gathering of Harrisburg Township High School alumni at Bar-B-Q Barn.
However, a meeting will happen there noon Thursday.
Puryear was in the Class of 1936. Her sister, Beth (Gray) Humm, was in the Class of 1941.
Beth, Ray Humm of the Evansville, Ind., Class of 1941 and Bob Barnett of the Class of 1941 who lives in Equality invite any of their old classmate or any other alumni from Harrisburg Township High School or Harrisburg High School to visit with them and reminisce for a bit before the 3 p.m. Homecoming Parade.
“Due to a mix up in the information I will not be there,” Puryear said.
She had believed the parade was on Friday and she will be in an airplane en route to Harrisburg during the informal class reunion noon gathering.
Puryear, her sister, and others had a tradition of visiting Harrisburg for homecoming every five years, but last year decided to make an annual trip.
“Last year because of our advanced age we decided we had better do it every year instead of five years. That was stretching it a little,” Puryear said.
Puryear will be with the group in spirit during her flight, and is looking forward to visiting old friends during the remainder of Harrisburg Homecoming.
