  • Philip Leithliter, 89, of Mount Carmel, passed away Sept. 27, 2012 at Wabash General Hospital in Mount Carmel.

  • Philip Leithliter, 89, of Mount Carmel, passed away Sept. 27, 2012 at Wabash General Hospital in Mount Carmel.

    He was born Oct. 6, 1922, in Equality in Gallatin County, the son of James and Rhoda (Davenport) Leithliter.

    He married Elizabeth "Becky" Hibbs in 1945 in Marion, and she survives.

    Philip worked for Dekalb for over 40 years as a plant breeder. He enjoyed people and loved his family life. He was raised on a farm and enjoyed conversations with his family and friends. Philip was a baptized member of Restitution Church of God in Eldorado. He attended church at the Free Methodist Church in Mount Carmel.

    He is survived by his loving wife, Becky of 67 years; brother, Bob Leithliter of Eldorado; two nieces, Katherine Ortega and Alice Norman; and two nephews, Jim Leithliter and Russel Bird.

    Philip was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Earl Leithliter; and two sisters, Pauline Leithliter and Berniece Bird.

    Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, in the Chapel of Family Tradition Funeral Home in Mount Carmel. Funeral services are 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at Restitution Church of God, 270 Alexandria Road in Eldorado, with Elder Jack Wiggins and Dr. Brian Atra officiating. Burial will follow at Lindale Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Eldorado.
