Masonic Lodge No. 325 and the Saline County Tourism Board have teamed up for Saturday's "Tour de Tunnel," a bike ride from Harrisburg to Vienna. Registration will be from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the north end of Parker Plaza.
Riders will get a T-shirt with their $25 registration fee. Proceeds raised from the event will be used to support organizations that help needy children, like the St. Louis, Mo., Children's Hospital and the Murphysboro Children's Home, among others.
"After you register, you can take off," said Paul Buzz Welling, assistant secretary and past master of the lodge.
There will be several stops along the way, with refreshments provided. The stops will be set up at Carrier Mills, Stonefort, New Burnside and Tunnel Hill.
"There will be people there with drinks, protein and candy," Welling said.
Pickup vehicles will be waiting in Vienna to bring cyclists back to their cars in Harrisburg.
The 35-mile ride takes an average rider about four hours, according to Welling.
Participants will need their own bike and helmet, which must be worn at all times throughout the trip. Children are welcome, but should be accompanied by an adult. Participants are reminded to wear comfortable clothing and shoes, and to prepare for the weather.
